Welcome to the Year 2022!

My brief Editorial is basically to update the Indian Association for Social Psychiatry (and hence the Indian Journal of Social Psychiatry [IndJSP]) membership about the updates and achievements for the previous year (2021) and briefly what is planned for 2022.

  Journal Publication Statistics Top

I am pleased to share that the journal has continued to grow as reflected by a nearly 35% increase in the monthly downloads and also having over 325 submissions. In addition, there were four theme-based issues on COVID-19, Occupational Health and Student Wellness, Behavioral Addictions, Community and Rehabilitation Psychiatry guest edited by experts from various parts of the country and addressing different facets which were very well received by the membership.

  Increased Visibility of Journal Top

The IndJSP made major moves toward social media outreach this year. We are available on Twitter with our own handle (@IndJSocialPsy), Facebook (This page can be located on Facebook using complete name of the journal or through its abbreviated title i.e., @IndJSP), and LinkedIn. The LinkedIn and Twitter accounts of the journal liaise and promote each other mutually. The IndJSP LinkedIn is connected with various national and international bodies of mental health such as the Indian Psychiatric Society, the World Psychiatric Association, the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association (APA), the World Federation for Mental Health, to name a few. IndJSP LinkedIn also highlights authors of the respective articles in order to add more visibility to their work. The journal account also follows other international journals in related fields such as the International Journal of Social Psychiatry, International Journal of Social Psychology, International Psychogeriatrics, etc., which enables cross-submissions and a healthy collaboration. Messages regarding new issues/releases are being posted regularly on these social media platforms. Expanding the number of followers on these platforms needs cooperation and support of members of the society, as in the coming days, this will help the IndJSP to be more popular on social media within researchers, students and clinicians alike.

All the members of the society are requested to follow the journal on these platforms. In addition, authors are advised to add their Twitter, LinkedIn details while submitting the manuscripts as that will be added in the published manuscript.

  Publication Process Top

”Ahead of Print” (AOP) publication process was initiated in July 2021 and we hope to have that fully streamlined in the year 2022. As the Editor, I am aware about the current long time gap between Acceptance and Print Publication of the accepted articles. We are trying to cut down this gap with AOP, but I would also like to reassure the readers (authors) that in this year we shall work on clearing the backlog of getting the accepted articles into print; starting from the current issue.

  Current Issue Top

A small word about the current issue. There are six different papers (oration and original research) that won awards at the recently concluded 28th National Conference of Indian Association of Social Psychiatry held at RIMS, Imphal, Manipur, 26th–28th November 2021. The issue is rounded off and completed by a series of 10 original articles/brief communication covering the various psychosocial aspects of mental health disorders.

Happy Reading!
